“元旦”用地道的英语怎么说？

 一、元旦节

       Collins COBUILD Advanced Learner's Dictionary 5th Edition是这样说的：New Year's Dayis the first day of the year. In Western countries this is the 1st of January. 元旦节是新年的第一天。在西方国家，元旦节是一月一日。看来，“元旦”叫New Year’s Day（注意大写）。顺便说一下，“元旦”的前一天就是“元旦前夜”，它的英文说法是New Year's Eve.

 

 

二、跨年

     “跨年”就是满怀期待地迎接新年的到来，我们来看看BBC是如何说“跨年”的：

【例】Most other countries usually hold public new year countdown parties.

countdown是“倒数计时”的意思，“跨年”就是new year countdown（新年倒数计时），是不是有满怀期待的意思呢？
     顺便说一下，“跨年演唱会”可以翻译为new year countdown concert，模仿例句中的new year countdown parties。

     如果想说“我今天晚上跟朋友一起喝扎啤跨年。”就是I'm celebrating the new year countdown by drinking draft beer with my friends.用现在进行时表示将来发生的动作。

 

三、新年决心

    “新年决心”这个说法我们中文里原先是没有的，是直接从英语直译过来的，近些年越来越流行。“新年决心”叫New Year's resolution或New Year resolution（两个都对，别纠结了）。
【例】I made a New Year resolution to give up smoking. 我的新年决心是戒烟。

 

 

四、新年祝福
    My wishes for you: Great start for Jan, Love for Feb, Peace for march, No worries for April, Fun for May, Joy for June to Nov, Happiness for Dec, Have a lucky and wonderful 2020.
祝你：1月良好开端2月有爱3月平安4月无忧5月欢乐6-11都喜悦12月好哈皮，2020幸运美好。
